• Welcome to our blog

Our shared values in Y5: To care for myself and others by making sure we are all safe and happy. To be honest in all we do/say. We always work hard and try our best. We listen carefully and thoroughly. We make sure we are always giving our best, so everyone else can be the best that they can be. We look after our property.
We like to be 'leaders' and not 'followers' We always choose the 'good' light inside of us. We make the right choices at the right time.

Anyone can train hard for a short period. Winners give their best every hour of every day for months on end.

In 5V we like to stop and think - before we do or speak.

'Give children a thought and they’ll learn for a day. Teach them to think and they’ll learn for a lifetime.’David Hyerle
If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.- William Arthur Ward
You cannot write it, if you cannot say it; you cannot say it, if you haven't heard it. - Pie Corbett

We love to share our way of thinking, it does help us in our learning!

Welcome to our wonderful new Y5’s

Welcome to Y5 – the BEST yeargroup in the school!

In Y5 we: learn and work hard, we have fun and enjoy school, we share jokes and our learning, we tell about things we like to do in our spare time, but also show how hard we work in class. We learn in interesting and different ways, we like to use ICT in all our subjects and we produce outstanding pieces of work, work we can be proud of, therefore we try our very best in everything. We are not scared to make mistakes or to get things ‘wrong’, as this is how we learn! We are confident to say what we think and to share our thoughts. We are brave and take risks in anything, we try new things out and like to investigate things too. We are all curious and want to know how things work/operate and sometimes like to take things apart to see what is ‘inside’. Reading and writing are the two things we love most. We love words and love to play around with it. When our friends write, we love to listen to their writing, as they are so creative and sharing it with us, we learn new ways of using those words.Reading after lunch for about 10 min, is always something we look forward to and taking notes of interesting words and phrases in our writing journals is also something we enjoy as we are allowed to play around with ideas of authors in our writing, in that way we are getting better and better, as authors know what makes good writing.

We laugh at ourselves and laugh with others. We support one another – in anything and everything and respect everybody around us, including our friends. We listen to each other and share ideas, take advice from others on how to improve our work or getting better at it and build on to it. Independent learning is very important to us, in that way we show our understanding and get to know where to improve. Y5 do read lots more than other yeargroups at home, doing our homework every single week neatly and listen carefully to our Teacher and Parents. We don’t forget to ask our Parents to sign our reading record books.

When our friends are upset about anything, we like to show how we care through our support, but also telling adults around us, as we are one big family when at school. By doing all sorts of jobs during lunch time, we take on some responsibility and by doing so, we practise some of our skills to prepare us for one day when we are adults. We all want to share our learning and hope you are going to visit our blog quite often to see how we get on. We are chatty people, so we would welcome some comments any time! We are excited about the Olympics and will definitely go for gold too! We treasure the values of the Olympics: respect, excellence and friendship.

  • respect – fair play; knowing one’s own limits; and taking care of one’s health and the environment
  • excellence – how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one’s own objectives
  • friendship – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences
