• Welcome to our blog

Our shared values in Y5: To care for myself and others by making sure we are all safe and happy. To be honest in all we do/say. We always work hard and try our best. We listen carefully and thoroughly. We make sure we are always giving our best, so everyone else can be the best that they can be. We look after our property.
We like to be 'leaders' and not 'followers' We always choose the 'good' light inside of us. We make the right choices at the right time.

Anyone can train hard for a short period. Winners give their best every hour of every day for months on end.

In 5V we like to stop and think - before we do or speak.

'Give children a thought and they’ll learn for a day. Teach them to think and they’ll learn for a lifetime.’David Hyerle
If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.- William Arthur Ward
You cannot write it, if you cannot say it; you cannot say it, if you haven't heard it. - Pie Corbett

We love to share our way of thinking, it does help us in our learning!

Healthy packed lunches – Data handling

In Y5 we’ve been looking at Data Handling. Almost all of Y5’s worked independently on an inquiry. Our Science topic for Autumn1 was ‘keeping healthy’ and we linked our inquiry to our Science topic. We tried to find out if Upper-KS2’s packed lunches have been healthy.

In our school we had a Food Awareness program two years ago alongside healthy eating workshops – even for Parents too. Last year’s inquiry during Autumn was also based on this topic and we discovered the packed lunches were healthy.

Our current Y5’s worked on more in depth questions. We discovered that our packed lunches are STILL healthy, BUT not our drinks! More than 50% of our packed lunch children – in Upper KS2 – are having  sugary drinks! Wow, we need to deal with this now. We will definitely report back making sure children know what a healthy drink is. Watch this space, as we will soon upload some of our work for you to enjoy.

This is Harnoor’s Bar Chart with her results on the data collected for Y5’s. Next time when Harnoor has more time, she will colour her bars, so it’s more visual to the eye and easily readable.
